Macintosh users can store files on our servers, but as it is well recognized best practice to open design (Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Quark) files from your hard drive, VPURIT offers Retrospect client backups. The client lives on your machine, waiting for a call from the Mac backup server. When the client is activated, it compares your specified folders with the backup database (and files) located on the various firewire drives connected to the backup server. It then copies any changed or added files and updates the database.
When you log off, the Retrospect agent is turned off. So for consistant night time backups, it would be best if Mac users used the screen saver module in System Preferences. With this you can password protect your computer without turning off the Retrospect agent. There are times when your Mac will benefit from logging off and relogging in, so don't be afraid to do so, the Retrospect agent will reload if setup that way. This can be checked in System Preferences/Users/. Open your account and click on the startup tab, and verify that the Retrospect agent is there and that it's box is checked.
