Using Remote Assistance |

Remote Assistance is a great way to quickly resolve a computer problem when distance separates you and your IT Support Staff. The person who is having trouble can ask for help from a user who can fix the problem from their own computer from anywhere in the world. |
Ways to Connect |

The first option if you are running Internet Explorer is to click this link, and move on to step 3. |

Connect to Remote Assistance |

| 2. |
Or, if the link won't work or if you are using another web browser, click on the “Start” menu, and click “Help and Support.” |

|
…then, in the top right corner, click “Invite a friend to connect to your computer with Remote Assistance.” |

| Now that you are connected... |
|
| 3. |
Click “Invite someone to help you…” |
|
|
 |
| 4. |
Either pick someone out of your Windows Messenger Buddy List (if you have Windows Messenger running)… |

|
…or type in the e-mail address of the person that you would like to have help you. |
|
|
 |
| 5. |
When you have the right person, click “Invite this person." |
|
| If you asked for assistance through Instant Messenger… |
| 6. |
An invitation will be sent to the person you selected, and you will be able to work with them from there. |

| If you asked for assistance through E-mail… |
| 7. |
Fill in your name. |
|
| 8. |
Fill in a good description of the problem that you are experiencing or the issue that you need help with. Click Continue. |

Give the appropriate number of hours for this person to respond. If it is during business hours then 2 hours should be sufficient. If it is night time or over the weekend, then give the appropriate number of hours for the person to respond during normal business hours. |

Do not use your IU password, or any other password that you use for other services! Create a unique password, and communicate this password to the person who is helping you either through e-mail or a phone call. |

| 11. |
Answer “Yes” to the two questions referring to accessing your e-mail addresses. Since we know that we prompted this, then we can allow it this time. |

You will be notified when your helper accepts your invitation. You can work with them from there. |
