Campus Network Infrastructure (CNI) Network Distribution Intern

Overview of the internship project:
Expose the students to the infrastructure components of data networks by working directly with network engineers on cable and wiring installation, data switch/telephone installations, and switch/telephone configurations and record keeping. Wiring is a vital component in modern data and voice communications yet students rarely get practical experience to deepen their theoretical knowledge. This is an opportunity for a student to learn about an area of IT that is frequently overlooked as well as learning the basics of a switch network.
Description of duties:
- Install cable and wiring for data and voice connections
- Prepare data switches for installation
- Input and update information in documentation associated with equipment distribution and network jacks
- Learn about network equipment installation and configuration, and help engineers as necessary
Qualifications- (including academic background and any work experience desired):
Good attention to detail. Legible handwriting. Ability to bend and lift at least 25 pounds. Job will require walking, standing, bending, working at a computer, using test equipment. Third year or fourth year student with networking or computing classes preferred. All work will be on the IUPUI campus and interns must be available for 4 hour morning or afternoon shifts.
