Student Interns

Work on exciting information technology projects at IU -- intern with University Information Technology Services (UITS).

UITS communications internships require a minimum of ten hours participation a week, for which you earn a stipend. Students from populations traditionally under-represented in IT professions are especially encouraged to apply.

We're looking for three communications interns for 2009-2010, two focused on communicating with students and one focused on communicating with IU’s broad IT community (professionals and non-professionals alike). All share similar qualifications:

  • Tech-savvy and tech-intrigued
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Adept at online research, creative outreach, and grassroots marketing
  • Engaged in social networking through Twitter, Facebook, and blogging
  • Active, involved, and connected with campus life and community

Two Communications Office (CO) interns, one at IU Bloomington and one at IUPUI

Duties include working with the Communications team to:

  • Identify key messages and communication strategies for student audiences at IU
  • Research new or expanded ways to reach students
  • Develop and market information programs targeted to students
  • Coordinate teams to assist with student outreach and promotion of UITS services
  • Devise UITS messaging, media coverage, and marketing strategies in support of the new Student IT Ambassadors group

One IT Community Partnership (ITCP) intern, located at IU Bloomington or IUPUI

Duties include working with the managers of ITCP to:

  • Monitor ITCP communications outlets, such as Twitter, Facebook, email, and blogs
  • Gather technology-related news from around the world and share it with the IU IT community via Twitter and other ITCP outlets
  • Help build IU’s community of IT professionals by raising awareness of internal IT news sources
  • Expand the audience for ITCP communications
  • Track outgoing messages, new media, and strategies designed to garner participation among IT professionals at IU
