Staffed by fifteen full-time technicians, the NOC operates on 24 hour, 7 day a week, 365 days a year schedule. The NOC supports the IUPUI campus, the IU state network, and to a limited extent, the IU Bloomington campus. IUPUILocated in Indianapolis, IUPUI is the academic home to 27,587 students and 2,284 full, or part-time, faculty. In conjunction with the IUPUI UITS Network Services team, the NOC supports the campus Gigabit Ethernet network, the dialup modems, and the commodity and Internet2 network connections. IU State NetworkThe IU state network consists of campuses in the following cities: Bloomington, Indianapolis and Columbus, Richmond, New Albany, Kokomo, Gary, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Nearly all have DS3 network connections (45 mbps), while there are four DS3's in place between IUPUI and IUB. The NOC provides support for intercampus connectivity, and the data circuits. The main networking hub for the IU state network is in Indianapolis, where all the regionals interconnect. All but Bloomington receive their internet connectivity out of Indianapolis. IUBThe IUB NOC and data network team are located in Bloomington on the largest
IU campus. The group consists of fourteen full-time staff and several
hourly staff who plan, build, and maintain a data network that services
over 36,000 students, and several thousand faculty and staff across 200
campus buildings. We have staff on-site or on-call 24 hours day, 7 days
a week, 365 days a year to provide services such as Ethernet connections
to about 30,000 data jacks, remote access modem pool, wireless services,
peering point for local ISP's, Internet circuits, and high-bandwidth intercampus
services to IUPUI. | |||||
