GPA Calculators

What Are GPA Calculators For?

Having clear, realistic projected GPA information is especially important for preprofessional students, who are usually considering programs with moderately or highly competitive admissions.

By making the kinds of calculations explained below, you will form a clearer sense of where you stand academically. In turn, you will be able to form a realistic idea of what sort of GPA you can expect to achieve in the time you have left as an undergraduate, or the time you have left prior to submitting applications. Following from this, you will be in a position to make better-informed decisions about your goals, and to thereby create a more specific plan of action tailored to your circumstances.

GPA Calculators offer a quick, simple way to:

  • calculate your current GPA
  • estimate what a future GPA might look like, using if-then logic ("If I earn these grades in these courses, then my cumulative GPA will become...")
  • calculate specific types of GPAs; for instance, calculating the GPA of only your science courses, or courses you have taken as admission prerequisites for your professional program
  • projecting what kind of GPA or grades you would need to earn in order to raise your GPA to a certain benchmark ("I have a 3.2 but need a 3.4 to be competitive for admission to my first choice program. What kind of grades must I earn over the next 30 credit hours to achieve a 3.4?")

Some Examples of GPA Calculators

The following are examples of GPA calculators. Some of them are similar to each other, but you may prefer one interface over another. Some have more particular uses. Look them over, and experiment with them to learn which one is best suited to your needs. You can find other GPA calculators through a simple web search.

EKU Semester / Target GPA Calculator

Determine whether you can reach a given target GPA within a certain number of credit hours that you specify, and learn what the best possible GPA is that you can earn within that time frame.

(For instance, "I have 30 credits remaining to boost my application GPA. Can I reach a 3.6 by then?")

GPA / Needed Credit Hour Calculator (Wichita State University)

Calculate how many credit hours with a specific GPA you would need to reach your desired GPA.

(For instance, "I've completed 60 hours with a 3.2. How many hours at 4.0 do I need to reach a 3.5 CGPA? How many hours at 3.75?")

Indiana University Bloomington Office of the Registrar GPA Calculator

You can use the IUB semester GPA calculator to calculate or estimate your science or prerequisite GPA as well. Simply plug in your relevant pre-PA coursework, along with completed or best-guess grades.

(Note: on the first screen, you are asked to input the number of classes you are including in your calculation. Once you enter the number and click "Submit," scroll back down to the very bottom of the screen to enter the courses.)
