George Taliaferro
TOPIC: "A MAN OF HIS WORD"

In 1949 George Taliaferro became the first African- American to be drafted by an NFL team... namely the Chicago Bears. While growing up in Gary, Indiana, this Roosevelt HS football star, let everyone know that his big dream was to one day play for the Bears. His dream would have come true, but words spoken to young George by his father changed his life in more ways than one. This story will be revealed when we hear Talioferro speak at the November luncheon.

At IU he played defensive back, and in 1945 led the Hoosiers to their first BIG TEN championship. He was not only a top defender, but also led the Hoosiers in passing, rushing, and punting.

Following his professional football career, he served as Dean of Students and Assistant Football Coach at Morgan State University. After earning his MS degree at Howard University in 1960, he returned to Indiana University and was named Special Assistant to IU President, Dr. John Ryan.

In 1981 he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.

Cost: $13 for members and $15 for guests. If you make a reservation and do not attend and no cancellation was received by November 9th, the University Club will bill you the for the meal.
