Katrina credits her quilting ability to her mother, who taught her to sew at a young age, and to a childhood weight problem, which prompted her to make all her own clothing by middle school. But it was the fire that reminded her of her real priorities: “It was God just telling me I needed to change. …What’s important is bringing yourself happiness and other people happiness. That’s what life is really about.”
