For decades, Lester Nance bred Yorkshire hogs—many of them taking top awards at the Indiana State Fair. Lester decided to apply these same skills to his hobby of coon hunting. He liked the challenge of breeding a dog with all of the top characteristics necessary for a good coon hound. One of his early advertisements boasted, “We don’t breed for length of ear, we pay special attention to what is between the ears.”

Bred for intelligence, stamina, and exceptional trailing, hunting and treeing abilities, Treeing Walkers enjoy national popularity today thanks to the work of Nance writing columns, organizing associations and supporting the development of dog field trials.
