Graduate Program | How to Apply
Applications are generally considered for Fall semester entry only, with an application deadline of JANUARY 15 for domestic students and DECEMBER 1 for international students.

Admission Requirements
Master's applicants should:
- have at least a B (3.0) average in an undergraduate program at a four-year accredited college;
- submit official transcripts from all institutions attended;
- submit a statement of purpose explaining their interest in our graduate program;
- submit three letters of recommendation;
- [international] submit an official paper TOEFL score greater than 600, official computer-based TOEFL score greater than 250, or official internet-based TOEFL score greater than 100;
- submit a departmental “Background Information” form;
- submit an academic writing sample;
- submit a resume or CV;
- * submit an appropriate level of performance on the Graduate Record Examination General Test: official GRE scores are required for all MA applicants, and required for most MS applicants except those focusing on new media design and production. Applicants focusing on new media design and production may submit a portfolio of creative work in lieu of GRE scores. Successful applicants are expected to have all GRE scores above 500, or verbal and quantitative scores above 500 and analytical score above 4.0, or equivalents for verbal, quantitative and analytical scores, as per conversion tables provided by ETS for the new GRE scoring system.
Applications from students who have not majored in communication at the bachelor’s level are welcomed. If admitted, these students may be required to take supplementary courses.
Ph.D. applicants should:
- have a Master’s degree from a recognized institution with a minimum GPA of 3.5;
- submit official transcripts from all institutions attended;
- submit a statement of purpose explaining their interest in our graduate program;
- submit three letters of recommendation;
- submit a writing sample;
- submit a resume or CV;
- submit a departmental “Background Information” form;
