Room and Board
Participants in the Summer Workshop have a choice of living in air-conditioned university dormitory rooms, or making their own arrangements to live in town. The Workshop strongly recommends living on campus, since this will augment the students' overall experience and increase the opportunity to speak with instructors, visitors in the cafeteria, and other students. Living on-campus is not required.
Residential Program Services will not permit students who will not be 18 by the start of SWSEEL to live in the dorms.
On-campus housing will be in single rooms with shared bath in Willkie Hall. Special SWSEEL rates for 2012 are:
| SWSEEL Session | Dates | Per Day | Days | Total Cost | 9 week | May 29 – July 29 | $28 | 62 days | $1736 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8 week | June 4 – July 29 | $28 | 57 days | $1596 |
| 5 week | May 29 – June 29 | $28 | 35 days | $980 |
| 4 week | June 4 – June 29 | $28 | 30 days | $840 |
There is a $50 housing application fee for SWSEEL participants to live in the IU residence halls and a $3.50 summer session activity. The housing application fee is waived for SWSEEL participants that live in the IU residence halls during the academic year. All on campus housing is in single rooms with a shared private bathroom. No on-campus housing is available for participants planning to bring partners or family members.
The housing application is available online. Students should first create their network ID and passphrase. Once that is established, go to the RPS website (www.rps.indiana.edu) and select the Online Services link in the upper right-hand corner of the page. Once in the Online Services portal, choose the “New Student Housing Contract and Application”. Complete the required demographic information, and proceed to the tab labeled 2011-12 academic year. Select the Summer Housing Contract/Application. During the process of completing the online application students will be asked to identify their SWSEEL term and program. If you have special needs you can address these on the application and should also send an email to swseel@indiana.edu so that these can be accommodated.
The Summer Workshop will set up and staff language tables for noon meals in Wright Quad dining hall (a ten minute walk from classes in Ballantine Hall) for all of the participants in the Workshop. Wright Quad has a large salad bar and a food court. The Workshop considers that the language tables form such a valuable and integral part of the students' cultural and linguistic experience that it requires students to participate in these meals as part of their overall language program.
There is no meal plan for SWSEEL. Please see the IU Residential Programs and Services web site for more information on plans you may wish to select. Students are also encouraged to consider purchasing I-BUCKS for on-campus dining. Click here to purchase I-BUCKS Wright dining also takes cash, credit cards and campus access accounts if students do not choose a meal plan.
