Mathematica Licensing Information
Mathematica is an interactive system for doing mathematical computation. It handles numerical, graphic, and symbolic calculations, and it incorporates a high-level programming language which allows the user to define his own procedures.
License Terms
- Faculty and staff may lease Mathematica under the Windows, Mac OS, UNIX, and Linux platforms for university-owned computers.
- An additional home-use license may be available to a user who is already leasing Mathematica for campus use.
- No documentation is included with the lease but information about purchasing documentation can be had by contacting the Stat/Math Center.
Mathematica Student Edition
- Mathematica for Students is for sale to students enrolled in the IU System for use on their own personal computers. Proof of enrollment is required at the time of purchase.
- Registration and a password are required to use Mathematica for Students. To register Mathematica for Students and to receive an activation password, students must go to the Wolfram Research product registration page or contact Wolfram Research via phone, email, fax, or postal mail.
- There is no functional difference between the student and professional editions of Mathematica.
- Mathematica for Students includes The Mathematica Book as an electronic version in the online documentation found under the Help Browser. The professional version of Mathematica contains a hard copy of this book in addition to the online documentation. A printed edition of the book is available from the Mathematica bookstore.
- Mathematica for Students has an encoded footnote that prints at the bottom of every document page. This "Printed by Mathematica for Students" footnote cannot be eliminated.
- The software may be installed under Windows, Macintosh, or Linux Systems.
- This is an annual license and an annual fee is $30; it expires on July 6 each year.
- Students can pick up CDs from the Stat/Math Center and IU bookstores at regional campuses (how to buy).
