Deliberating in a
Democracy Project
The
Deliberating in a Democracy Project (DID)
is directed by the Constitutional Rights Foundation Chicago
(CRFC), in partnership with the Constitutional Rights
Foundation in Los Angeles (CRF), and Street Law, Inc. The
two overarching goals of the project are to provide (1) a
model for secondary teachers to learn and appreciate among
themselves the power of deliberation in their classrooms;
and (2) a platform for engaging secondary students in
discussions of substantive content on the institutions,
governmental systems, and basic principles of a democratic
constitutional state. Major activities associated with the
project include the following:
-
Teacher staff development
workshops
-
Classroom deliberations
-
An online discussion board
for students and teachers
-
A teleconference between
students in partner sites
-
A teacher exchange between
Indiana educators and Macedonian educators
