Gizele Rubeiz
Arts AdvocateBS Arts Management/BS Public Affairs, Legal Studies Major
Gizele Rubeiz knew she enjoyed studying government early on. “Advanced Placement government was my absolute favorite course in high school,” she says. When she discovered SPEA on the IU Web site, she realized she had finally figured out what she would study in college. She chose legal studies because “I wanted a major that would allow me to continue learning about the government and its processes.”
But Gizele also had an interest in the arts, which led her to also study arts management. An accomplished violinist, Gizele plays with the IU’s Jacobs School of Music, and participated in her high school’s orchestra program. “I was fortunate enough to attend a high school with an incredible arts program, and I firmly believe that all students should have access to the same quality of arts as I did,” she said.
Gizele plans to use her SPEA education to ensure that school arts programs are maintained, and to use art as a means to bring awareness to environmental issues. Following SPEA, Gizele plans to attend law school, and bring her passions to organizations such as VH1’s Save the Music or the Canary Project, a visual exhibit that highlights the effects of global warming on our planet.
