Welcome to the study of Hispanic Liguistics in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Indiana University. We were one of the first and remain one of very few institutions in the U.S. to offer graduate programs in Hispanic Linguistics. We also have close ties with the Department of Linguistics and with the Department of Second Language Studies providing a rich academic environment in which you will have the opportunity to develop your skills and become a competitive professional in the field. Our students can specialize in phonology, syntax, second-language acquisition, sociolinguistics, and pragmatics. Students can attain either an M.A. or Ph.D., or both. This webpage gives you access to useful links related to program requirements, faculty, current and former graduate students, and other links concerning linguistic offerings: M.A. Reading Lists, Admissions, the Brown-bag Speaker Series in Hispanic Linguistics, Department of Linguistics, the Department of Second Language Studies, and other activities at IU.
