This Year’s Fellows

The thirteenth year of MFFP saw seven fellows come to IU, five for summer session appointments, and two for yearlong positions. We’ve also been lucky to help support an academic year post-doctorate researcher through the School of Public and Environmental Affairs, Dr. Michael Edwards, a Ph.D. recipient in Chemistry.

MFFP sponsored two other scientists: Dr. Jason Best, taking a summer break from his post at Shepherd College, taught for the Department of Astronomy; and Dr. Ron Villarreal, specializing in animal learning, has a yearlong position in the Department of Psychology.

Three of the summer fellows taught through the School of Education.  During first summer session, Dr. Gloria Edwards taught W200 for the Educational Technology division of the Curriculum & Instruction Department.  Dr. Myra Alexander-Starr instructed a graduate seminar for Higher Education and Student Affairs.  Dr. David Kimweli taught a practicum course for M.A. and Ph.D. students through Counseling and Behavioral Psychology.

MFFP’s final two fellows for this year have research focuses centered more directly on language and culture.  Dr. Emmanuel Harris, a faculty member at Baker University in Kansas, came to the Department of Spanish and Portuguese for the summer to teach a class on contemporary Caribbean Fiction. Dr. Audrey Wilson, another yearlong fellow, is teaching two classes through the School of Journalism this fall, both of which take up advertising as it fits into the larger landscape of American culture.
