Visiting veteran educator brings insight

Photo: Tony Manson Tony Manson came to Bloomington for the second summer session 1995 as a visiting fellow in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, in the School of Education. During his stay, Mr. Manson served as a guest lecturer for his department's summer course offering, began a study on anti-bias and gender bias in education, and presented a position paper, "Overview in Gender Bias and Equity." Recalling his weeks in the new School of Education building, Mr. Manson says that "it was helpful to get started on my next project." He also emphasizes the camaraderie that sprung up among the fellows this summer: "It made it even better that they were there."

Mr. Manson has spent twenty years in high schools and universities teaching physical education and nearly everything else on a high school curriculum, from earth science to language arts. He has also coached both football and track. From 1986 until 1993 Mr. Manson headed the Alternative Education Department at San Gorgonio High School in San Bernardino, California, where in 1990 he was named Teacher of the Year for San Bernardino City Schools. Mr. Manson currently serves as Vice Principal at French Middle School in Topeka, Kansas, and he receives his Ph.D. this fall from Kansas State University.
