Art Garmon came to Bloomington for the second summer session 1995 to
teach "Strategies for Educational Inquiry" in the School of Education's
Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology. While working
very hard on developing and leading this course, Mr. Garmon also
continued his dissertation research, which he hopes to complete in
early fall.
Mr. Garmon began working on his Ph.D. after nineteen years as a high school English teacher, in which time he also served as a school counselor and a basketball and softball coach. At Michigan State University, where Mr. Garmon will earn his degree, he has been researching the learning of preservice teachers, particularly what they learn in courses emphasizing diversity issues. Reflecting on his time in Bloomington, Mr. Garmon comments that the Minority Faculty Fellowship Program "has been a wonderful opportunity and a great experience." This fall Mr. Garmon will begin teaching as a visiting lecturer at Indiana University at South Bend. |
