Information for Professionals

March 6-7, 2009

Thank you for agreeing to participate in our 100% student-organized research day and job fair.  We are very excited that you will be here.

If you are looking for a place to stay, or other travel information, please click here.  To attend the whole conference, please plan to arrive on Thursday evening, and leave late Saturday evening or Sunday.  We are located about 1 hour south of the Indianapolis airport.

Arrival information and parking

The conference will begin at 9:00 AM on Friday with breakfast and registration.

We are located at 1001 East 10th Street.  One-day parking passes can be obtained from John in room GY129 for Friday.  Parking is free on Saturday.  Parking lots are located behind the Geology building with access off East Cottage Grove Avenue and N. Forrest Ave.  If you arrive before 9 AM you should have no trouble finding a parking spot.  Please park your car, then come inside for your permit to display in the front windshield.

Industry and Academia Presentations/Conversations

We will again ask professionals to give short, informal interviews with students.  These interviews will run 20 minutes/student, and are meant to expose students to general opportunities available to them in various career paths.  We do not expect these informal interviews to be used as formal recruiting tools, however, if you would like to, and have the capacity to recruit, you are more than welcome to do so!  We hope that you will find this a useful way to educate young geoscientists about job opportunities after graduation.

Judging Student Presentations

As an industry or academic professional, you will be asked to judge the student research presentations.  Presentations will be of both poster and oral format, and you will be asked to judge a single category and approximately 5 presentations within that category  (this number could change depending on how many students present research).  You will be asked to fill out judging sheets and write out comments on the presentations that you judge.  These comments will be returned to the students after the conference.  Your comments are very helpful for the students, and we thank you in advance for these.
