  2. •Each presenter will have ONE Velcro-only, horizontal, freestanding display board (Velcro stickies will be provided).

Suggestions from past conferences on Oral and Poster presentations:

ORALS

  1. • Avoid white backgrounds.  Dark backgrounds with light font colors are easier to see when projected.  White backgrounds are best for printed powerpoints.

  2. • Include intro/outline, objective, and conclusions slides

  3. • State the significance of your research, how original it is, and why anyone cares

  4. • Keep slides simple

POSTERS

  1. • Include abstract

  2. • Present poster like you would an oral presentation (be organized and practice what you will say)

  3. • Keep your presentation short and concise

  4. • Allow openings for discussions and questions

  5. • Use space wisely—don’t leave a lot of void space

  6. • Make sure font sizes are readable from a distance.  Titles should be about 2 inches tall!

COMMENTS FOR EVERYONE

  1. • Some of your audience may be color blind.  When making graphs or diagrams, use different patterns, differently spaced dashed lines, and different symbols as well as colors to clarify different sets of data or different map regions.
