Sunflower Cooperative Daycare

Our Responsibilities

Sunflower keeps running because the families involved work at it. We engage in activites with our children, we clean it on the weekends, we purchase the snacks our children eat and we even have outside responsibilites, such as curriculum coordinator, work-study coordinator, new member coordinator, treasurer, secretary and purchaser.

Shift duties

Sunflower maintains at least one parent on duty at all times and this time is split equally between all member families (one or both parents may perform shift work). This time requirement may increase depending upon work-study student schedule availability. The Schedule Coordinator will request availability weekly or will create a more permanent schedule on a semester basis when possible.

For example: If Sunflower has five member families and a full complement of work-study students, each family is responsible for eight hours for the week (8hrs/day for five days). If work-study availability leaves four hours of gap, each family will be responsible for 8.5hrs that week.

It is advantageous to enter all available hours for the week. You will not be scheduled for all of them, but it provides the Schedule Coordinator the flexibility to meet individual family wishes and needs, and it makes their job easier.

Outside jobs

In addition to the regular shifts, parents must perform an outside job. These include new member coordinator, schedule coordinator, curriculum coordinator, IU liaison, work study coordinator, purchaser (of supplies such as snacks and cleaning products), health & safety coordinator, secretary and treasurer. These duties usually require about an hour or two each week (on average).

Weekend clean-up

Member families are expected to perform much of the necessary cleansing of Sunflower on a weekly basis. Membership may decide to institute a rotating schedule for cleaning. This is especially important during cold and flu season to limit the spread of illness.

Meetings

All parents will meet as a group once a month, at a time when the membership collectively decides, to discuss how the coop is being run. This is also when fees are due.

Special requests

On the refrigerator, parents should make a note of any special information such as dietary restrictions, potty training, allergies, concerns about behavior, etc… Adults should read this information and respect the wishes of parents.
