Pell Promise
Award

IU Grant Awards: Pell Promise Award

Through the Pell Promise Award, IU provides the balance of funding needed to cover the full tuition and mandatory fees for in-state undergraduates who qualify for Federal Pell Grants. This "Pell Promise" will make IU Bloomington more accessible than ever before for Indiana residents from low- and moderate-income families.

IU PELL PROMISE AWARD DETAILS

  • Freshmen must have SAT of 1150 or higher or ACT of 25 or higher.*
  • Students must maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA at IU Bloomington to renew the award each year.
  • Upperclass students must be a prior recipient of a Pell Promise award in a previous academic period.
  • Transfer students will be ineligible.
  • Students must be enrolled full-time.
  • Award is renewable for four year (eight semesters) of student at IU as long as the student remains eligible and maintains enrollment.
  • A FAFSA must be filed by the IUB priority deadline (March 10).
  • Students must be classified as Indiana residents, paying in-state, undergraduate tuition and fees.
  • When combined with the student's Federal Pell Grant and any other gift aid, the Pell Promise Award will cover the balance of tuition and mandatory fees.
  • This award amount will decrease as other gift aid is reported.

FEDERAL PELL GRANT DETAILS

  • Students must be pursuing their first undergraduate degrees.
  • Students must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress Standards.
  • The Federal Pell Grant is a need-based award and thus counts towards meeting a student's overall need figure**.
  • Federal Pell Grants are based on the EFC (Expected Family Contribution) from the FAFSA.
    • Students with an EFC range of $0 to $4995 are eligible for Federal Pell Grants.
    • Eligibility is based upon the number of enrolled hours at the end of the first week of classes.

*The SAT score is based on the Critical Reading and Math sections only. The ACT score is the combined composite score.

**The Pell Promise Award will not be increased to cover adjustments made to Federal Title IV financial aid based on repeat coursework regulations.

21st Century
Scholars Covenant

IU Grant Awards: 21st Century Scholars Covenant

The 21st Century Scholars Program offers tuition assistance to Indiana residents who meet academic and need requirements. Students apply for the 21st Century Scholars Program in the 7th or 8th grade.

The 21st Century Scholarship Covenant at IU will supplement the 21st Century Scholars state grant to cover the full cost of attendance, including books, room and board, up to the amount of a student's financial need, as defined by the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The Covenant provides 21st Century Scholars with enough additional financial aid to the meet the full financial need, as defined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), each year the student is eligible to receive the 21st Century Scholar award to pay in-state resident educational fees as a full-time bachelor's degree candidate at Indiana University Bloomington.

This award is renewable for four years (eight semesters) of study at IU as long as the student remains eligible and maintains enrollment. See the 21st Century Scholars Covenant website www.iub.edu/~covenant for more info.

21ST CENTURY SCHOLARS COVENANT DETAILS

  • Students must be admitted and begin enrollment as first-time freshmen at IU Bloomington for the fall semester immediately following their senior year of high school. The program started with the Fall 2007 freshman cohort.
  • Transfer students will be ineligible.
  • Students must be paying in-state resident fees at IU Bloomington.
  • Students must sign and mail their 21st Century scholars pledge affirmation on time.
  • Students must receive the 21st Century Scholars award during their freshman year.
  • Apply to IU early in the fall of your senior year of high school and be accepted for admission to a bachelor's degree program at IU Bloomington.
  • Students must enroll as a full-time bachelor's degree student at IU Bloomington.
  • Students who withdraw or do not maintain consistent enrollment each semester (fall and spring) will be ineligible.
  • When combined with the student's 21st Century Scholars Award and other gift aid, the Covenant award will cover the balance of the student's need*.

Important Renewal Information for 21st Century Scholars Covenant Students

*The 21st Century Scholars Covenant will not be increased to cover adjustments made to Federal Title IV financial aid based on repeat coursework regulations.

LaVerne Noyes
Awards

IU Grant Awards: LaVerne Noyes Award

The LaVerne Noyes Award is a need-based award given to the direct descendants of American veterans of World War I. The award amount for the 2011-2012 academic year is $500.

DETAILS

  • The student must be a direct descendant of a World War I veteran who served in the U.S. Army or Navy. The veteran must have been honorably discharged or discharged due to death. Also, one of the following criteria must have been met:
    • The veteran had at least six months of military service prior to November 11, 1918,
    • The veteran was on active service overseas in World War I prior to November 11, 1918, or
    • The veteran died while in service during World War I.
  • Students must provide documentation to the Office of Student Financial Assistance verifying the veteran's service, and the student's relationship to the World War I veteran. This documentation must be provided only once; eligible students will then automatically be considered for the award in subsequent years. Documents required include:
    • Copies of birth certificates and/or marriage licenses tracing the student's origin completely and directly to the veteran. (A birth certificate for the veteran is not needed.)
    • Official documentation to verify the veteran's military service, such as the honorable discharge certificate or certification letter from the Veteran's Administration.
    • Awards will not be processed until all documentation is received. Awards will not be processed retroactively after an award period has ended.
  • Students must complete the FAFSA by the March 10 priority deadline, and show at least $1000 in financial need.
  • Students must be U.S. citizens.
  • Students must be enrolled at least halftime in a degree-seeking undergraduate program.
  • Students must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress standards.
IU Staff
Council

IU Grant Awards: IU Staff Council

IU Staff Council awards are funded by the income of an IU Foundation endowment. The availability of funds changes each year. Awards are offered until funds are exhausted. Award amounts vary each year according to available funds.

DETAILS

  • Students’ parent must be employed as IU staff on the Bloomington campus.
  • Parents must have an approved Dependent Child IU Tuition Benefit application on file with Human Resources.
  • Students must file the FAFSA by the IU Bloomington March 10th priority deadline.
  • Returning students must have a minimum cumulative program GPA of 2.0.
  • Priority is given to students who demonstrate the highest need on the FAFSA.
  • Students are evaluated for selection each year. Awards are NOT automatically renewed.
  • Students must remain eligible for the Dependent Child IU Tuition Benefit in order to retain any Staff Council award offered to them.
  • Students must be enrolled at least half-time (6 or more credit hours) to receive the award.
