Welcome

The Society for Ethnomusicology will hold its 52nd annual meeting, October 25-28, 2007, in Columbus, Ohio, at the Hyatt on Capitol Square. Columbus Ohio, the host city for the 2007 meeting of our society, is the fifteenth largest city in the U.S. and one of the fastest growing metro areas in the Midwest. The city and its environs boast of several important institutions of higher education, most of all The Ohio State University (OSU), the largest single-campus university in the U.S. (more than 57,000 students) and a world-class public research university (http://www.osu.edu/). The meeting will be hosted by the OSU School of Music and Ethnomusicology @ OSU, a comprehensive program in ethnomusicology, which carries a special focus on current developments in the discipline, cognitive ethnomusicology specifically (http://ethnomusicology.osu.edu/ ). The Local Arrangements Committee has scheduled several special events, concerts, and dance workshops during the meeting. Pre-conference on Wednesday, October 24 will be dedicated to a one-day Symposium on New Directions in Cognitive Ethnomusicology.
