Granfalloon: A Kurt Vonnegut Gathering
Call for Academic Papers
Indiana University Bloomington is pleased to announce a call for proposals for Granfalloon: A Kurt Vonnegut Gathering, a two-day conference/festival in celebration of the life and work of Kurt Vonnegut to be held May 11-12, 2018 at Indiana University Bloomington.
Much like Vonnegut, who consistently blended genres and challenged traditional artistic boundaries, Granfalloon is a truly unique event—part symposium, part exhibit, part performance, part music . . . and a celebration of all things Vonnegut. Highlights include discussions led by world-renowned Vonnegut scholars and friends, a concert by Father John Misty, a production of the musical version of God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater, a performance of Vonnegut’s Requiem, access to archival gems (some of which still carry the lingering scent of the old man’s Pall Malls), and much, much more.
The planning committee is currently accepting proposals for both individual papers and panel discussions. Papers/panels are welcome which explore all aspect of Vonnegut’s life and work. A primary goal of the event is to celebrate Vonnegut’s relevance and impact on contemporary literature, film, music, art, and thought.
Proposals should include for each participant:
- author’s name, rank, and academic affiliation (when applicable)
- a complete cv or resume
- a title and 250-500-word abstract for each paper
The deadline for submissions is Thursday, March 1. Proposals may be submitted to Professor Edward P. Comentale at email@example.com. Granfalloon is sponsored by the IUB Arts and Humanities Council and the IU Office of the Vice President for Research. For additional information, please visit Salo University, a Web space devoted to all things Vonnegut, and the IU Arts and Humanities Council Granfalloon webpage.
