Trustee Teaching Award 2011

Outstanding Teaching

Candy Gunther BrownProfessor Richard Nance is the recipient of the Department of Religious Studies' 2011 College of Arts and Sciences Trustees Teaching Award for Excellence. We are confident that the literally over a thousand students who have taken Professor Nance's course Introduction to Buddhism will applaud this award. Professor Nance brings such enthusiasm and intelligence to his teaching that, semester after semester, students pack that class and give him enthusiastic evaluations. He has also developed exciting new courses on Tantric Buddhism, Buddhist ritual, and Buddhahood. Professor Nance is also unfailingly generous with his time and guidance to both graduate students and undergraduates. For all these reasons Professor Richard Nance is a worthy recipient of the department's highest award in teaching.
