Indiana University Bloomington

Information Access

Introduction

The procedures to obtain access to restricted student records data are in compliance with federal and university regulations.

The Office of the Registrar is the custodian of student records and schedule of classes data for the Bloomington Campus, and thus, reviews requests for access to restricted information. Approval for access is evaluated based on a 'legitimate educational interest' the information, coupled with training about the data and compliance with the use and release of student records information.

On-line access (to SIS) allows an authorized user the opportunity to view (and in some cases, update) information on specific students and courses. File and data retrieval access (to the IUIE) provides an authorized user with the tools/resources to retrieve institutional data stored in university files.
