Rosinka Program in Russian Language and Culture

Upwardbound Program
The Rosinka Program in Russian Language and Culture has provided more than 35 children in the Bloomington area with weekly instruction in Russian language and culture since its establishment in September 2009. Two forms of instruction are offered:

Russian as a Heritage Language
For children growing up in a Russian-speaking household who are able to function in a classroom where all or most communication takes place in Russian. Instruction is in Russian with an emphasis on development of reading and writing skills.

Russian as a Foreign Language
For children with no regular exposure to Russian outside of the classroom. Instruction is in English with an emphasis on the spoken form of common vocabulary and high-frequency conversational phrases.

Led by native speakers of Russian, all classes feature games, songs, and dramatic activities.

In fall 2011-12 Rosinka will take place at Campus View Apartments (800 North Union Street, Bloomington) in rooms 120, 121, and 122 on Fridays, 4:45-5:45. Fall Semester classes begin on Friday, September 9.

Sponsored by the IU Russian and East European Institute and the IU RPS Area Coordinator’s Office, Rosinka is free of charge and open to children between the ages of 5 and 11. To sign up children, please complete a registration form and a permissions form for each child and submit them by email, fax, or regular post to:
