Female Figurine
PNE-01-Z-0017
Design:The artifact is a hollow ceramic vessel
in the shape of a female figure. She is in a sitting position with her
arms folded over her stomach; one arm is placed above her belly button and
the other arm below it.
Size:N/A (Roughly 20cm in height)
Condition:It is in extremely good condition
although both arms have broken off.
Color:Yellowish tan
Temper:Sand
Collection Date:Prior to August 1996
IllustrationN/A
Comments:This vessel is important due
to the belief that is an effigy vase (Stevens-Arroyo 1988; Loven 1935)
and the fact that this type of vessel is rare in a complete form.
It is also unique in that the figure represents a Taino myth concerning
the origin of males and females.
