Dominican Republic Verso and Bombard Photos

This photo of a salvaged verso and bombard was taken at the Columbus Museum in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic by Charles Beeker (Indiana Uiversity) while on the March 1996 Research Project. Note: The bombard is broken and the middle piece should be attached to the right end of the larger piece with the breech block inserted into that end.

This bombard, located in the National Maritime Museum, was salvaged from the English warship the Mary Rose which overturned in 1545. It is among the earliest surviving weapons of this type. The timber bed was used to secure the cannon and prevent recoil while firing.
