Dominican Republic Bombard Illustration

This illustration (Indiana University) shows the bombard commonly used from the 15th to 17th century. It was a breech loaded weapon which ranged from 6 to 12ft in length and weighed up to 2000 pounds. It was mounted on a huge wooden block as opposed to using trunnions, the common method used in later cannons.
