American Elderberry

Scientific Name: Sambucus canadensis
Description: A tall shrub with scarcely woody, smooth, pithy, dark maroon or green stems 3-13' or commonly 7' high, the branches swollen at the joints, rank-odored when bruised, the bark warty.
Habitat: Common on rich, moist lowlands, mostly in thickets.
Range: West to Manitoba, eastern Kansas, Arizona and Texas.
Type: Shrub
