American Beech Scientific Name: Fagus grandifolia Description: A wide-spreading tree 45-50' and occasionally 100' high, with a trunk diameter of 2-4'. The continuous stem and almost horizontal, slender branches form a symmetrical, round-topped figure; the leafage conspicuously horizontal in manner of growth. Habitat: Common on rich uplands and on moist rocky ground. Range: North shores of Lake Huron, northern Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota, south to Florida.
