White Ash Scientific Name: Fraxinus americana Description: A large and valuable timber tree 60-75' and occasionally 120' high in woodlands of the Ohio and Mississippi Valleys, with a trunk diameter of 4-6'. In isolation it is broadly ovate, with large, ascending limbs and branches, the lower branches often drooping. In the forest the stem is tall and very straight. Habitat: Common in rich, moist, cool woods, in fields, or on river banks. Range: Newfoundland to Ontario and northern Minnesota, eastern Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas, and south to northern Florida. Type: Tree Source:Field Book of American Trees and Shrubs by F.
