Leatherwood, Moosewood, Wicopy Scientific Name: Dirca palustris Description: A peculiarly stocky shrub 2-5' high with a thick, gnarled, light dull brown trunk, often inclined, about 5" thick and scarcely longer, diverging near the ground into many curved branches 1-1.5 inches in diameter. The ascending, smooth, yellow green twigs are thickly clustered at the ends of the branches. Habitat: Commonly in damp rich woods and thickets.
