Pignut Hickory

Scientific Name: Carya glabra
Description: A medium-sized tree 50-60 and occasionally 120' high, with a trunk diameter of 5'. Bark thick, deep gray brown, shaggy, not deeply scored, the confluent ridges flattened, the smooth branches slender, the lower ones drooping, forming a narrow long-ovoid head, the twigs slender.
Habitat: Common in dry woods.
Range: Southern Maine, west to eastern Nebraska and Oklahoma, south to Florida and Texas.
