Devil's Walkingstick; Angelica Tree; Hercules' Club

Scientific Name: Aralia spinosa
Description: A shrub or tree 12-38 feet high with a trunk diameter of 10 inches, the stem and branches of the shrub form covered with hard, slightly reflexed spines, twigs dark brown. In the tree form the trunk coarsely not deeply ridged.
Habitat: In woods along streams.
Range: From southern NY south to Florida and Texas, and west to Indiana and Missouri.
Type: Shrub
