Ohio Buckeye, Fetid Buckeye Scientific Name: Aesculus glabra Description: This is an indigenous western Buckeye. Not a tall tree, its maximum height being 50' with a trunk diameter of 1.5'. Bark gray brown, rough-scaly, scarcely perpendicularly seamed, and with a fetid odor, the limbs and branches wide-spreading. Habitat: Common tree of woodlands and river banks in the middle west. Range: Pennsylvania west to southern Iowa, central Kansas and Oklahoma, and south to the Tennessee River Valley and the hills of northeastern Alabama, and northern Georgia.
