Scutellinia scutellata

Common Name: Eyelash Fungus
Description: Cup 0.5-2 cm across, closed at first, then opening into a shallow disc shape; inner surface bright orange-red, outer surface pale brown covered in stiff dark brown or black hairs which look distinctly like eyelashes rimming the margin; the hairs have forked bases rooting in the flesh. No stem.
Habitat: usually growing in dense groups on damp soil or wet, rotten wood. Very common. Found widely distributed throughout North America.
Edible: Not edible.
