Strobilomyces confusus

Common Name: Confusing Bolete
Description: Cap 3-10 cm across; fuscous black to black; covered with acute, rigid, and erect spines or warts, which are denser toward the disk. Stem 40-80 by 10-20 mm high and wide.
Habitat: in mixed coniferous and hardwood forests. Apparently widespread although exact distribution is not known.
Edible: quite good.
