Description: Fruit body 2.5-6 cm across, 2-9 cm high, subglobose with a distinct rudimentary stem; white at first, becoming yellowish brown; outer layer of short pyramidal warts, especially dense at the head, rubbing off to leave and indistinct meshlike pattern beneath, which opens by a pore. Habitat: on soil or humus in deciduous or coniferous forests. Found widely distributed in North America. Edible: when flesh is completely white; excellent.
