Lycoperdon echinatum

Common Name: None.
Description: Fruit body 2-5 cm across, subglobose tapering into a short stem; white becoming brown; outer layer forming pointed spines 3-5 mm long, convergent at the tips in groups of 3 or 4; a netlike pattern is left when the spines have become detached; opening by a central pore.
Habitat: among leaves and on humus in woods. Sometimes abundant. Found in northeastern North America.
Edible: When skinned and white.
