ACADEMIC PROGRAM
  • Jagiellonian University is one of the major universities in Krakow. It has 15 faculties on 3 campuses, and currently accommodates nearly 52,000 students, including 2,500 international students from around the world. Jagiellonian University is located in Krakow, Poland.
  • CES provides mandatory introductory language instruction. Students who have more advanced knowledge of Polish can take more advanced classes; students who are proficient in Polish can study German, Russian, or French instead.
  • The undergraduate curriculum at CES is oriented toward the History and Culture of Central Europe, and Central Europe’s place in contemporary Europe. Students generally take three courses in a semester in addition to introductory Polish; this amounts to 13 credits. Courses are taught by CES faculty in English.
ELIGIBILITY
  • At least one course in Central or Eastern European studies, a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and second-semester sophomore (or later) standing at the time of application.
HOUSING
  • The Center guarantees housing for visiting students in the Żaczek or Nawojka dormitories near the campus.
  • Rooms are shared, for two students; study abroad students are typically paired with a Polish student. The rooms are small, but of good quality; bathrooms (which are en suite) have recently been remodeled, and the furnishings are relatively new.
COSTS
  • Tuition: 3,800 euros per semester (currently that is approximately $5,206).  Other costs include $640 to IU.
  • Rent: approxinamtely $100-150 per month
  • Air fare: $800-$1100
  • Food: There is no meal plan, but inexpensive options, including student cafeterias, abound. The typical cost of a day’s worth of meals of decent quality would be about $10.
  • Insurance: $130 per semester
SCHOLARSHIPS
  • Most IU scholarships, grants and loans can be used for program costs.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
  • All applicants must be IU students.
  • Application packets must include:
    1. An application form
    2. A one-page statement of purpose written in English
    3. Two copies of your unofficial transcript
    4. Two Letters of Recommendation
