Mission
Our mission is to promote fine art photography to the students of IU and the community of Bloomington. Anyone can join. All we ask is a $5 membership fee, which will pay itself off many times over. If you are still unsure of whether you want to join or not, just come to a few of our meetings and see what you think.
Meetings
We have meetings most Thursdays at 7:00pm in the FA010. You can check the calendar for the specifics. The activities of each meeting differ from each week. You can expect to see workshops on different photographic techniques, group critiques of our work, photo safaris, and work on our galleries.
Galleries
Every semester PhoSo will hold at least one gallery highlighting our work. Any member of PhoSo can contribute work. On certain occasions our galleries will be used to raise money for certain causes. For example, we do an annual gallery auction with the Bloomington Hospital Positive Link at their World AIDS Day Gala.
History
The Indiana University Photography Society, or PhoSo, started at the begining of the spring semester of 2008. The founding members included Derek Cutting (President), Joshua Cisney (Vice President), and Esther Uduehi (Treasurer). The culmination of all the efforts of the first semester led to the first gallery exhibition. The gallery was in the Indiana Memorial Union Gallery, where the Starbucks is located. There were over 13 contributing artists with a variety of different types of photography. It was a big success.
During the spring semester of 2008 PhoSo became officially sponsored by the Hutton Honors College through the Assistant Dean, Lynn Cochran.
