Fast facts

• This month marks the 160th anniversary of the founding of the IU School of Law-Bloomington. T.C. Steele’s painting of Maxwell Hall, site of the School of Law until 1956, is on display at the school through December.

• The 24th Whitewater Valley Art Competition, sponsored by the Department of Fine Arts at IU East, was judged by Sheila Stewart-Leach, executive director of the Museum of Arts and Sciences, Macon, Ga. Winners of the juried regional competition were announced last month and exhibits were installed at locations throughout the campus. The Richmond campus began offering a program toward conferral of a bachelor of arts degree in fine arts this semester.

• IU Bloomington’s minor in international studies is an interdisciplinary program particularly well suited for students planning careers in such fields as teaching, journalism, business and government service or with non-governmental organizations operating internationally.

• IU Kokomo received approval for its 33rd four-year undergraduate degree program this semester, the bachelor of arts degree in professional communication. A first-of-its-kind baccalaureate program on the IU campuses, the new major brings together course work in writing, communication arts and information technologies.
