IU-Purdue ‘blood battle’ scores donor points

The “battle for blood” has ended, and IU has won the sixth annual IU vs. Purdue Blood Donor Challenge, sponsored by the two schools’ alumni associations. Fans and students of the schools donated 4,678 units of blood, a new record. Participants were recognized at another traditional blood sport, the Old Oaken Bucket football game in West Lafayette Nov. 23.

Every donation IU or Purdue fans made at an Indiana Blood Center facility, or American Red Cross facility in Bloomington or Jeffersonville, counted in the competition, which ran throughout Indiana from Oct. 14-Nov. 15.

Blood is always needed. Call the Indiana Blood Center at 317-916-5150 or the American Red Cross at 800-GIVE-LIFE.
