
Ellis
| The new commander of U.S. Army Forces Command (FORSCOM), headquartered at Ft. McPherson, Ga., is Gen. Larry R. Ellis, who received a master of science degree in physical education from the IU School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation in 1975.
Ellis was nominated for promotion to four-star general and assignment as commander of FORSCOM by President George W. Bush and confirmed by the U.S. Senate. FORSCOM is the Army’s largest major command, consisting of more than 760,000 active Army, U.S. Army Reserve and Army National Guard soldiers. FORSCOM trains, mobilizes, deploys and sustains combat ready forces capable of responding rapidly to crises world-wide, and is the Army component of U.S. Atlantic Command.
Formerly, Ellis served as deputy chief of staff for operations and plans at the Pentagon. He had served as commander of the First Armored Division in Germany and of Task Force Eagle and Multinational Division (North) in Bosnia.
