‘Yes she can’

Ride, Sally Ride

Ride

The first American woman in space, former NASA astronaut Sally Ride, will bring her message, “Reach for the Stars” to the IPFW campus tomorrow (Nov. 16) as part of the campus’ annual “Yes She Can” event designed to introduce young women to nontraditional career opportunities.

She will speak from 11:15 a.m.-12:45 p.m. in the ballroom at the Walb Student Union. The program will feature female representatives from careers such as engineering, geology, archaeology, pediatrics and city planning.

Ride is a founder of Imaginary Lines, an organization with a mission to “increase the number of girls who are technically literate and who have the foundation they need to go on in science, math or engineering,” Ride said “One of our goals is to make girls feel like they belong to the scientific community and help them connect to this community and stay involved.”
