Bloomington provost initiative put on hold

Brehm

Andrews

The move to establish a provost on the IU Bloomington campus has been put on hold for now, according to a letter released late last month by IUB Chancellor Sharon Brehm.

“It has become apparent to me that there are greater concerns among the faculty about the position than I had realized,” wrote Brehm, who favors changing the current position of vice chancellor of academic affairs and dean of the faculties, to provost and vice chancellor of academic affairs. “Moreover, President Brand’s impending departure from the presidency has created a more complicated administrative environment than was the case less than a month ago.”

A new time frame for establishing a Bloomington campus provost has been put into place. According to Brehm, Moya Andrews has agreed to assume interim duties for the intended provost position, beginning July 2003. Andrews currently is the vice chancellor for academic affairs and dean of the faculties.

Next fall, a national search for a permanent provost would begin, Brehm said, with the intention of having the position filled by July 2004.
