The Chapman Professor of English established as IPFW’s first endowed professorship; Fort Wayne Public Television Center opens on land leased from IPFW.

Construction completed on Willis Family Bridge, connecting main campus to student housing site; Groundbreaking ceremonies mark beginning of construction of the Waterfield Campus Student Housing project; Discover IPFW campaign announced, with a goal of raising $20 million.

IPFW’s Willis Family Bridge spans Crescent Avenue, connecting IPFW’s main campus with student housing. The bridge, which is 246 feet long, was designed by architect Kurt Heidenreich of Engineering Resources Inc. in Fort Wayne. The bridge’s length required a center support and a pylon with cables (the triangular structure) was designed for that purpose. Only one other bridge in the United States (in Frankfort, Ill.) has a similar design.
