Big red candy witch house (Bring your bread crumbs, children)

The IU Opera Theater in Bloomington will present its third production of the season, Engelbert Humperdinck’s fairy tale opera Hansel and Gretel, tomorrow night (Nov. 10), Sunday afternoon (Nov. 11), Friday, Nov. 16, and Saturday, Nov. 17. With the exception of the 3 p.m. matinee on Nov. 11, all performances take place at 8 p.m. in the Musical Arts Center. Tickets are on sale now at the MAC box office, all TicketMaster locations, by phone through TicketMaster at 812-333-9955 and online. “Informances” also will be held in the mezzanine one hour before curtain time at all performances.

First performed at the Court Theatre of Weimar in 1893, the opera is based on the beloved fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm. A delightful production for children, Hansel and Gretel tells the familiar story of two children lost in a forest who fall prey to a wicked witch living in a house made of sweets. The classic tale will be transformed into a larger-than-life wonderland on the MAC stage.
